Oh, Bjorn, I totally envy you your list! I did see Pygmalion recently, with Rupert Everett playing Henry Higgins. That was fabulous. I'd actually love to see him reprise the role in My Fair Lady if they ever put that on and he took the role. I think he'd be even more fabulous than he already is if he sang and danced as well *grin*
Most of the theatre tickets I've gotten here have been my boss's client-schmoozing cast-offs, so I've seen some interesting stuff and a couple of truly awful things*, but not any musicals. I do love a show where people just randomly burst into song just because they can.
*Salome leaps immediately to mind. It's a re-telling of the Biblical story of Salome/Herod/John the Baptist set in a post-modern apocalyptic world. Everyone's favourite part seemed to be when Salome danced and whipped her tatty bojangles out for all to see. Meh.

We've been so lucky this year. I'd say our long term average is about .666 musicals per year. Then suddenly all these small theatres in town that don't usually do musicals just . . . . did.
I've seen the Strauss opera Salome. It has a reputation as pretty steamy; I was underwhelmed.

Tuesday night, James texted to say he was leaving work, and then sent another text shortly after saying he'd be a bit. That happens fairly often if something blows up at work (usually not literally). A bit later he texts me that he has a story. I figure, still, work. Shortly after he calls and says that, by the way, he was hit by a van while he was walking across the street to catch the mover. But he's fine (I told to to say that part first if it ever happens again). The guy was a turning right and clipped him on the right hip, knocking him down and out of the path of the van. The driver stopped and was very upset. He also spoke no English, and James and the cop spoke no Spanish, so James finally called a coworker down to translate.
I picked him up at the train station and we went and got supper, then came home so I could put Abigail to bed while he went to the hospital just to be sure he hadn't missed anything. Sure enough, he was just banged up--nothing serious. They gave him a prescription for ibuprofen 600 mg and flexeril, a muscle relaxer, and he stayed home from work Wednesday and Thursday. He was stiff and sore, but otherwise okay, thank God. He went back to work today. He says the only place that hurts now is where he's pretty sure he was hit (he doesn't remember the actual accident). No more getting hit by vans for him!
Oh, and Judi, don't you get hit while you're there, either!

Oh, what a scary moment the phone call must have been, Carol! I'm so glad James is safe and quickly recovering!

Apparently, several people from his office passed him, but didn't stop since he was standing, talking to people. They didn't realize he'd been hit by a van!
He's all better now--the only thing left is for the insurance company to pay for the medicine, the hospital (they haven't billed us yet), and the iPad that got the screen shattered--fortunately, that was work's, so he has a new one already.
In unrelated news, yesterday Abigail got her first mani-pedi, and her ears pierced. If at any moment I had forgotten just how exciting this was, she was right theremto remind me! She was very brave with the ear piercing. I, on the other hand, shut my eyes!

On Friday night I LOST MY BALANCE in the living room and slammed my shoulder into the base of the couch. I spent most of Sat. on the floor, until we realized it wasn't getting better and then called an ambulance. Turns out I broke my upper arm bone (LEFT) there's no cast but i have a sling for4 weeks. And needless to say everything is tougher, more updates as they come in.

Ouchie, Insom! I hope your recovery is swift!
Are any of our board members in Irene's path? I can't think of any, but my grasp of geography has always been sketchy.

So... how is everyone? In need of rest and rejuvenation? Just bumbling along (very) quietly?

shoe shopping. got the dress altered (woohoo) and have bought probably 7 or 8 pairs of shoes which i then returned for one reason or another. if you are on fb with me you know this. SUCH a thrill. my life has become 1) chopping vegetables 2) working out 3) shopping for shoes 4) vegging in front of the TV when i can't shop any more. that is all.

We were in the U. P. (michigan's upper peninsula for you non-midwesterners) for a week. Had a marvelous time. Went swimming in Superior, took two cruises, saw 11 waterfalls, dozens of eagles, and one grey wolf (!?!) Also had beer at five different micro-breweries. Mary says that picture is me getting seagulls on my teeth (from the old "happy motorcyclist" joke). Get well, insom, and enjoy your sustainable shopping, judi.
