We're back home. We did almost a week in Maine to see James's grandparents and family, then a few days home and a week in Orlando. James had a business trip; Abigail and I had Disney, although he joined us several times while he wasn't in meetings. It was nice in Maine and freakin' HOT in Disney. I wouldn't have picked that time myself, but since we have season passes, we came back to the room and the pool to rest often.
Now I need a vacation from my vacation.

if i could stand orlando, i might have gotten season passes myself when the kids were little... i always wanted to not HAVE to spend time there "to get our money's worth" when it's crowded, hot, and we're tired, hungry etc.

Along with continuing aftershocks (but only one decent shake since the quake in June), Nature is now dumping an unprecedented load of snow on Christchurch. As with all things in life, there's a Facebook page to commemorate the snowstorm. This is a screencap from last night that had me *snork*ing

Kay!! Oh my gosh, it's great that you can get online - you are sorely missed! *HUGHUGHUG*
I'm mostly in London these days. The family I work for will be going back to NZ for a holiday over Christmas and New Year and I will go with them, but I'm safe and sound on the other side of the world for now. My family are doing pretty well - my sister and BIL and kids are moving to another city, which means I probably won't get a chance to see them when I am home, but other than that, everyone's just keeping on going.

Yep. I feel a little like trouble is following me, but thus far I am safe.
I'm a little disappointed because I have this week off work and I planned to do a bit of sight-seeing in the city, but I'm a bit apprehensive about going into the city right now. We shall see what happens. I have theatre tickets for tomorrow night as well, so I'm hoping things calm down a little and I can go to that.

what's it like there? do you feel okay going out in the daytime?

Daytime seems fine, although the police presence is a bit insane. I went for a trim at the hairdresser yesterday and there was an average of two to three police officers per block in the local shopping district. I am going out tonight (I bought theatre tickets for this before the rioting started) but I'm a bit more confident as the police presence seems to have greatly dampened the activity in London.

well that's good news. i'm not sure where i stand on the concept behind the rioting, but of course cannot condone anything that causes danger to ordinary citizens going to the hairdresser!

Oh man !!!
That sounds like a marvelous show ! It's been "the year of the musical"* for Mary and me - mostly seen in the sort of intimate spaces described in that review. You get a totally different experience being in an audience of 150-200, no one more than 50 feet from the stage. And minimal, low-tech-stage craft and props can be so much more satisfying than high tech wizardry.
Hope you have/had a great time, Kaffy.
* Little Shop of Horrors, Avenue Q, I Wish You Love (a new Nat King Cole bio-play), A funny Thing Happened on the Wat to the Forum, A Girl Named Vincent (not a play, but new songs using the poems of Edna St. Vincent Millay, with some fun/interesting biographical vignettes thrown in) The Fantasticks, Kiss Me Kate, and H.M.S. Pinafore
