Okay, so I'm a little slow. I just read online about the results of a poll Dave took about 15 years ago, "The worst song ever". I was incredulous and horrified to find that Terry Jacks' "Seasons in the Sun" never even got honorable mention. What has happened to my America???

They were too busy having joy, having fun... ?
Check out the more in-depth book version (Dave Barry's Book of Bad Songs) I have a feeling Seasons in the Sun was in there, although I can't lay my hands on a copy right now to confirm that.

When I surfed to this bulletin board I had just read about dave's worst songs ever article and I was thinking the same thing you were: why no Seasons in the Sun? Death songs in general really gross me out. Even the best ones are creepy. Here are a few: The Edmund Fitzgerald, seaons in the sun, Last Kiss, tell laura I love her, dead man's curve, green green grass of home (songs about prisoners awaiting execution are even creepier!) gotta get a message to you (not a bad song if you ignore what its about), and when I die. A number of these songs are upbeat with the message: you're gonna die but it's okay since you can live it up in the here and now, but if you don't you'll be sorrreee. Today while the blossoms still cling to the vine, I'll taste your strawberries I'll drink your sweet wine, a million tomorrows may all pass away as I lie rotting, worm-eaten in my grave, dead as a doornail, but it's ok cuz of the joy that was mine today!
All time bad lines don't necessarily equal a bad song, but I must mention this from jimi hendrix: "But first, are you experienced? have you ever been experienced? Well, I have." -- I picture dana carvey dressed as the church lady looking at jimi and saying, well isn't that special?
